Discuss your projectMOSAIC is a child-led digital documentation system for early childhood care and education. Educators work from an e-storybook for each individual child, pre-loaded with the daily records a service has to keep: attendance, personal care, and sleep checks. The same storybook then presents that child's learning and development through learning stories, videos, and pictures, with every template pre-loaded with learning goals, positive learning dispositions, and a plan for learning. Updates reach parents in real time through the connected MOSAIC Family App.
Avril McMonagle is the founder behind MOSAIC. The idea grew out of her work improving early childhood education locally, regionally, and nationally, where she identified the need for a tool that would change how educators record children's daily activities and communicate them to parents. She has contributed to early education policy development, advocated for the sector through her media engagement, and served a three-year term as the nominee of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs on the Council of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment.
We were the development partner behind the platform, delivering three products: the MOSAIC Educator tablet app, the MOSAIC Family App for parents, and an admin panel for service managers and the MOSAIC team. The work ran from UI and UX through native app development and quality assurance.
Project Challenges & Needs
Paper-Based Recording
Childcare providers were carrying timeconsuming paper record systems that strained already stretched resources.
Parents Left in the Dark
Families wanted a genuine line of communication & real-time updates about their young children while they were away.
Compliance Expectations
External compliance organisations required inclusive, individualised, parent-accessible recording systems to meet quality standards.
Two Audiences, One Record
Educators and families needed very different interfaces over the same child data, connected securely and instantly.
Our Solution
We developed a connected, role-based Early Years Documentation Platform enabling:

Interfaces We Developed
MOSAIC Educator App (Tablet)
The educator's working tool, designed for one-handed use in a busy room, allowing educators to:
- Record attendance, personal care updates, and sleep checks against each child
- Build learning, picture, video, and voice stories from pre-populated templates
- Tag learning goals, positive dispositions, and individual targets as they document
- Capture photos and video straight into the child's secure gallery
- Complete snapshot reviews across the curriculum areas and set individual goals
- Message parents and publish events and notices from the room
MOSAIC Family App
The parent-facing app, presenting the same record in an accessible form, giving families:
- Real-time daily updates on routine, care, and developmental milestones
- Their child's storybook as a visual narrative of achievements and interests
- A My Profile view covering family details, friends, likes, favourite activities, strengths, and progress
- Photos and videos in a secure gallery, with the time and place each was captured
- Messaging with educators, plus notifications for upcoming events and urgent notices
- Access to policies, consent forms, and other downloadable documents
Admin Panel
The management layer for service managers and the

- Onboard services and manage rooms, educators, children, and parent accounts
- Set permissions so each educator and parent sees only the children they should
- Maintain templates, curriculum frameworks, and the shared document library
- Oversee documentation activity across rooms for inspection readiness
- Handle subscriptions, packages, and service-level configuration
