Enhancing Damp Prevention with Smart Sensors and Connected Devices

Our client wanted a modern digital platform to support indoor air quality and damp prevention by leveraging data from hygrometers. The solution needed to provide real-time monitoring of humidity, temperature, and heat index, while also offering smart recommendations and device automation.

We designed and developed a cross-platform mobile app for end-users and a web-based admin console, integrating Tuya IoT to connect devices seamlessly and automate dehumidifier control.

Project Challenges and Needs

Traditional damp-proofing relied on manual checks and generic advice, limiting effectiveness. The client required a solution to overcome:

Lack of Real-Time Monitoring

Users had no simple way to track indoor conditions continuously, often discovering humidity or damp issues only after visible damage occurred.

Manual Recommendations

Advice was generic and not tailored to users’ actual living conditions, making it difficult to take timely preventive or corrective actions.

Disconnected Systems

Users relied on standalone devices with no centralized platform to consolidate data, making it hard to understand long-term trends.

Limited Automation

Users had to manually switch on dehumidifiers or take action themselves, increasing the chance of missing timely responses.

Our Solution

We developed a comprehensive SmartDry App that connects hygrometers and dehumidifiers using Tuya IoT and device SDKs. The mobile application provides real-time environmental data, threshold-based alerts, and personalized recommendations, while the admin console delivers centralized control, analytics, and operational insights.

A key highlight of the solution is its automatic dehumidifier control, where Wi-Fi-enabled dehumidifiers are triggered to switch on or off based on live humidity readings. This ensures users can maintain healthier indoor conditions without constant manual intervention. Together, the system transforms damp prevention into a connected, convenient, and reliable experience.

User Interface

The User Mobile App was designed to give homeowners a simple yet powerful way to manage their indoor environment. It allows users to pair hygrometers via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi using Tuya IoT, view real-time and historical data for temperature, humidity, and heat index, and receive threshold-based alerts with personalized recommendations.

To make the experience more seamless, the app also integrates with GPS and external weather data, while Wi-Fi-enabled dehumidifiers can be automated to switch on or off based on humidity readings.

Admin Interface

The Admin Web Interface provides a secure, centralized platform for managing the overall ecosystem. Admins can log in to view dashboards summarizing user activity, device performance, and environmental data trends. The console includes features for managing users and devices, viewing sync logs, and analyzing time-series data with filters for users, devices, and date ranges.

It also supports data export in CSV or Excel, enabling deeper reporting and diagnostics while maintaining role-based access security.
